Sun Siyam Resorts has announced a significant advancement in its sustainability agenda with the launch of one of the Maldives’ largest solar energy initiatives within the hospitality sector. The programme, officially introduced at an event held on 6 December 2025 at Sun Siyam Olhuveli, represents a critical milestone in the Group’s long-term strategy to expand renewable energy adoption and strengthen environmental governance. The event brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, industry partners, media representatives, and members of the company’s management and sustainability teams, who were presented with a detailed overview of the project’s expected operational impact.
Project Overview and Strategic Significance
The solar initiative is structured around three strategic pillars:
- Enhanced Environmental Sustainability
- Increased Energy Independence
- Technological Innovation
Through this framework, Sun Siyam Resorts is accelerating progress toward both national renewable energy targets and the organisation’s own sustainability objectives under the Sun Siyam Care programme. The initiative also positions the Group as a leading contributor to the Maldives’ transition to cleaner and more resilient energy systems.
Key Performance Metrics
The installations deployed across Siyam World Maldives and Sun Siyam Olhuveli deliver the following combined outcomes:
- Installed solar capacity: 4,110 kWp
- Projected annual clean energy generation: 6,024,881.99 kWh
- Annual diesel savings: USD 1,292,289.12
- Annual CO₂ emissions reduction: Over 4,458 tons
Energy offset: 17% at Siyam World and 12% at Sun Siyam Olhuveli
These metrics demonstrate substantial progress toward reducing fossil fuel dependency, mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, and improving operational efficiency across the portfolio.
Alignment with National Energy Goals
The initiative directly supports the Maldives’ national target of achieving 33% renewable energy penetration by 2028 and contributes meaningfully to the country’s broader Net Zero 2030 commitment. By implementing one of the largest solar integrations in the hospitality industry, Sun Siyam Resorts reinforces its position as a sector leader driving long-term environmental resilience and sustainable economic growth.
