Summit Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang in Gangtok, marking its entry into the retreat hotel segment in Sikkim. The 38-room hilltop property is located in Pangthang, offering uninterrupted views of the Eastern Himalayas, including Mount Kanchenjunga.

Set amid pine plantations and natural mountain landscapes, the retreat is positioned for travellers seeking tranquillity, privacy, and immersive mountain experiences. While the property is a short drive from Gangtok’s main township, its elevated location ensures a quiet, secluded environment away from urban activity.

Focus on Destination-Led Hospitality

Commenting on the launch, Sumit Mitruka, Founder & Managing Director, Summit Hotels & Resorts, said, “Gangtok and the surrounding region are witnessing growing demand from travellers looking for deeper engagement with nature and a strong sense of place beyond conventional sightseeing. Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang reflects our evolving approach to destination-led hospitality in the mountains, where wellness, environment, and local context come together thoughtfully. This opening strengthens our presence in the Northeast and aligns with our long-term vision of developing distinctive destination hotels.”

The property features 38 rooms across multiple categories, including superior rooms, deluxe rooms, premium suites, attic suites, and luxury suites. All rooms are equipped with private balconies offering panoramic mountain views, while select suites include separate living and dining areas suited for extended stays. In line with regional climate conditions and sustainability considerations, rooms do not offer air conditioning or minibars.

A Retreat Experience

Summit Signature Retreat Pangthang houses a multi-cuisine restaurant featuring regional Sikkimese flavours alongside Indian and international offerings. Guests also have access to a sun deck overlooking Mount Kanchenjunga. For events and gatherings, the retreat offers a 5,000 sq ft banquet hall with capacity for over 500 guests, catering to destination events, wellness retreats, and intimate social functions.

Wellness forms a central pillar of the retreat’s positioning. The property includes a dedicated spa offering specialised therapies, along with purpose-built spaces for yoga and meditation. These facilities are designed to support rest, rejuvenation, and mindful travel, complemented by the calm surroundings and expansive Himalayan vistas.

The new retreat is part of the Summit Signature Series, the group’s portfolio of experience-driven properties characterised by elevated design, service, and contextual immersion.
