Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has opened Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, marking the Taj brand’s entry into continental Europe and adding a significant new address to its international portfolio.
Located in Frankfurt’s Westend district, opposite the city’s trade fair grounds and Festhalle, the hotel occupies the former Grandhotel Hessischer Hof, a property long associated with Frankfurt’s luxury hospitality landscape.
Reopened in June 2026 under the Taj flag, the 126-key hotel brings a contemporary interpretation to the landmark while retaining its historic identity.
A European Milestone for Taj
For IHCL, Frankfurt represents more than another international addition. As one of Europe’s important business, financial and cultural centres, the city provides Taj with a strategic gateway into continental Europe.
“With Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, we are marking an important milestone in IHCL’s growth journey,” said Gaurav Pokhariyal, Chief Operating Officer–Full-Service Business. He described Frankfurt as an ideal gateway for introducing Taj to continental Europe, given the city’s position as a major European hub for business and culture.
The opening adds another chapter to IHCL’s expanding international footprint, positioning its flagship luxury brand within one of Europe’s key hospitality markets. Rather than creating a new hotel identity from the ground up, Taj Hessischer Hof builds on the heritage of the former Grandhotel Hessischer Hof. “We are celebrating the continuation of a story that is deeply connected to this city,” said Albert Mayr, General Manager. “Great hotels do not thrive on their past alone; they thrive on how their future is shaped.”
That balance between preservation and reinvention runs through the property. The hotel combines its European heritage with contemporary luxury and elements of Indian hospitality, while retaining the character that made Hessischer Hof a recognised name in Frankfurt.
Spiridon Sarantopoulos, Senior Vice President, Operations Europe & USA, said the combination of the property’s heritage and Taj’s international stature provides the foundation for its next chapter, with the objective of delivering an authentic Taj experience without losing the individuality of the former Grandhotel.

A New Luxury Chapter
Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt features 126 rooms and suites across eight categories. Seven suites span more than 80 square metres, while the 140-square-metre Royal Presidential Suite is the hotel’s largest accommodation.
The hospitality offering extends beyond rooms to wellness, dining and private membership experiences. The property houses J Wellness Circle, a spa and fitness centre, alongside meeting and private dining spaces and The Chambers, Taj’s exclusive members-only club.
Its location directly opposite Messe Frankfurt also places the hotel at the intersection of luxury leisure and business travel—an important proposition in a city with a substantial international corporate and events economy.
Food and beverage plays a central role in the hotel’s positioning. Bombay Brasserie, the signature restaurant, brings together North Indian flavours and European influences. The property also features a Lobby Lounge & Bar and the return of Jimmy’s Bar, an address closely associated with the former Hessischer Hof.
For Taj, Frankfurt represents an interesting meeting of two hospitality legacies: a historic German hotel with an established place in its city, and an Indian luxury brand increasingly looking beyond its home market. The challenge and opportunity lies in allowing both identities to coexist.
With Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt, IHCL is not simply putting the Taj name on another European address. It is using an established hospitality landmark to introduce its flagship brand to continental Europe, while giving a familiar Frankfurt institution its next chapter.
