Vrindavan is increasingly becoming more than a pilgrimage stop. As visitor numbers rise, connectivity improves and infrastructure projects reshape the Braj region, the destination is beginning to attract a broader hospitality play.
Against this backdrop, IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Vrindam Developers Private Limited to develop voco Vrindavan, a 130-key hotel scheduled to open in Q1 2031. The project will mark Vrindam Developers’ first move into hospitality and add another international brand to the evolving accommodation landscape of the region.
The numbers point to the scale of the market. Vrindavan and neighbouring Mathura welcomed more than 90 million visitors in 2024, compared with 79 million in 2023. Annual visitor numbers are expected to reach 110–140 million over the next decade, creating a sizeable base for hotels, dining and other visitor-focused businesses.
The Case for Branded Hospitality
The growth story is being supported by improving connectivity to Delhi NCR, Agra and Mathura, alongside major infrastructure initiatives, including the Banke Bihari Corridor and improved expressway links.
For IHG, the combination of cultural significance, high visitor volumes and improving infrastructure makes Vrindavan a natural fit for a premium branded hotel.
“Vrindavan holds a unique place within India’s tourism landscape, with its deep cultural and spiritual significance attracting visitors from across the country and around the world,” says Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts.
“As the destination continues to evolve, there is an opportunity to bring more quality branded hospitality to meet the needs of its growing visitor base. The signing of voco Vrindavan reflects our focus on bringing the right brand to the right destination, with voco’s distinctive character and thoughtfully relaxed hospitality well suited to the evolving expectations of today’s traveler.”

What voco Brings to the Destination
Positioned within IHG’s premium portfolio, voco combines the informality and individuality of a standalone hotel with the consistency of a global hospitality group. Its positioning is built around a more relaxed, character-led experience, expressed through its ‘Come on in’, ‘Me time’ and ‘voco life’ hallmarks.
At Vrindavan, that positioning will translate into a hotel designed to serve more than the traditional pilgrimage traveller.
Part of a larger mixed-use development featuring hotel guestrooms and serviced apartments, voco Vrindavan will have 130 guestrooms, including 13 suites, alongside three dining venues. Its hospitality infrastructure will extend to more than 2,340 sq m of meeting and event space across six venues, including a 1,400 sq m ballroom, as well as a swimming pool and fitness centre.
The mix points to a broader demand base—pilgrimage and leisure stays, weddings and social celebrations, meetings and group travel.
A First Step Into Hospitality
For Vrindam Developers, the project is also a strategic entry into a sector with growing potential in the region.
Ankush Kadyan, Director, Vrindam Developers Private Limited, said, “Vrindavan’s significance as a pilgrimage destination, coupled with its growing visitor base and improving connectivity, presents an exciting opportunity for a quality international hospitality offering. We look forward to working with IHG to bring voco’s distinctive hospitality experience to the destination and create a hotel that responds to the evolving needs of travelers visiting Vrindavan and the wider Braj region.”
The project also needs to be viewed within IHG’s wider expansion across the Braj circuit. An upcoming Holiday Inn Express in Mathura will further extend the group’s presence in the region, giving IHG a foothold across two of its key tourism destinations.
For Vrindavan, the larger shift is perhaps more significant. As pilgrimage evolves into a broader travel economy, the destination is beginning to attract hospitality investment on a different scale.
voco Vrindavan, scheduled for 2031, will be a bet not just on the destination as it exists today, but on what Vrindavan could become over the next decade.
