The Karnataka government will convene a high-level consultation workshop at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi to identify and finalise the first set of tourist destinations to be developed to global standards as part of its long-term strategy to position the state as a leading global tourism destination.

The workshop, titled “Developing Global Standard Tourist Destinations at Hampi,” will bring together senior government officials, tourism industry stakeholders, investors and domain experts to prepare a strategic roadmap aimed at transforming Karnataka into a globally competitive tourism destination.

Tourism Minister K.J. George said the initiative represents a significant milestone in Karnataka's efforts to build a world-class tourism ecosystem.

According to the minister, the consultations will focus on identifying priority destinations while addressing key areas such as infrastructure development, private investment, destination management and sustainable tourism practices to ensure long-term growth.

Shaping tourism policy for next decade

George said the workshop is designed to create a collaborative platform for the government, industry and investors to align on a shared vision for tourism development.

“By bringing together the government, industry, investors and tourism experts on a common platform, we aim to formulate a clear roadmap for developing globally competitive tourist destinations. The decisions taken during this workshop will shape the future growth of Karnataka's tourism sector over the next decade and strengthen the state's position on the global tourism map,” he said.

The initiative forms part of the state’s broader ambition to position Karnataka as a leading international tourism destination by developing high-potential sites that meet global benchmarks for visitor experience, infrastructure and sustainability.
