The Department of Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, has launched its latest tourism brand campaign, ‘Take a New Turn in Arunachal’, positioning the State as India’s final frontier for discovery-led, experiential travel. The initiative signals a renewed push to strengthen Arunachal’s presence in the domestic and global tourism marketplace.
Anchored in the State’s refreshed brand platform, “Beyond Myths and Mountains,” the campaign encourages travellers to look beyond postcard landscapes and iconic monasteries to engage with Arunachal’s deeper cultural narratives and lived experiences.
The storytelling-driven campaign spotlights destinations such as Tawang, Ziro, Anini, Namsai, Dong and Mechukha, highlighting local communities, traditions, and everyday encounters as central to the travel experience. The messaging reinforces Arunachal’s positioning as a destination where journeys are defined as much by human connection as by geography.
Tourism: A Key Economic Driver
Commenting on the launch, Shri Pasang Dorjee Sona, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Education, RWD, Library, and Parliamentary Affairs, underscored the State’s diverse tourism potential. “Arunachal Pradesh has all the ingredients of a leading tourism destination—from heritage and biodiversity to adventure, festivals, and distinct tribal cultures,” he said, adding that the State’s natural and cultural wealth offers strong long-term opportunities for sustainable tourism-led growth.
Arunachal Pradesh’s tourism sector has recorded a sharp rebound following the pandemic. The State registered over one million tourist visits annually in both 2023 and 2024, marking a significant increase compared to pre-pandemic levels. Officials attribute this growth to a combination of improved accessibility, focused destination branding, and rising demand for immersive and offbeat travel experiences.
New Tourism Policy
Supporting the brand push is the State’s new tourism policy, which prioritises infrastructure development and capacity building. Key focus areas include enhanced road and air connectivity, upgraded visitor amenities, and a planned 50% expansion in accommodation capacity.
The policy also promotes diversified tourism segments such as eco-tourism, adventure tourism, spiritual tourism, farm tourism, tribal tourism, and border tourism, positioning Arunachal as a multi-dimensional destination capable of attracting varied traveller profiles.
Aligned with its long-term vision, the State Tourism Department is actively pursuing partnerships with travel platforms, tour operators, and destination marketers to expand Arunachal’s footprint in untapped source markets. These collaborations aim to simplify traveller access, improve service delivery, and elevate on-ground experiences.
“This campaign builds on the foundation we laid with our refreshed brand identity,” Minister Sona noted. “We believe it will significantly strengthen Destination Arunachal’s visibility and help position the State among India’s most sought-after travel destinations in the years ahead.”
