IHCL has announced the signing of a new 104-key Gateway hotel in Agartala, Tripura, marking a further expansion of the reimagined Gateway brand in India’s Northeast.

The brownfield project will strengthen the brand’s presence in the region while tapping into the growing hospitality demand in Agartala, the state capital.

The signing comes as Gateway Hotels & Resorts enters its second year following the brand’s repositioning, with IHCL continuing to expand its footprint across key business centres and emerging destinations.

Gateway Builds Momentum in the Northeast

Commenting on the development, Leah Tata, Vice President & Brand Leader, Gateway Hotels & Resorts, IHCL, said the brand’s expansion into Agartala reflects the growing demand for quality hospitality infrastructure driven by increased economic activity in the region.

“Gateway brand expands in the Northeast with this signing, marking the second anniversary of the re-imagined brand. Agartala is witnessing increased demand for hospitality offerings led by the growth of economic activity in the region. This signing is in line with our strategy of expanding across key business centres and emerging destinations. We are delighted to partner with Samashti Hotels & Resorts Pvt Ltd for this project,” she said.

Tata added that Gateway has gained momentum across both leisure and commercial markets over the past two years, positioning itself as the “Gateway to the Destination.” With more than 60 hotels in its portfolio, the brand is targeting a portfolio of 100 hotels by 2030.

The upcoming Gateway Agartala will feature 104 rooms and a range of facilities designed to serve both business and leisure travellers. The hotel will include an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant and bar, along with a spa, fitness centre and swimming pool.

The property will also cater to the city’s meetings, events and social functions market, with spacious banquet facilities and meeting rooms planned as part of the development.

Strengthening Agartala’s Hospitality Infrastructure

For Samashti Hotels & Resorts Pvt Ltd, the partnership represents an opportunity to introduce an established national hospitality brand to one of the Northeast’s key urban centres.

Alluri Harsha Varma, Director, Samashti Hotels & Resorts Pvt Ltd, said, “As the state capital continues to grow in prominence, we are happy to partner with IHCL and introduce the Gateway brand to Agartala.”

Agartala serves as Tripura’s administrative, political and commercial hub and is also an important gateway to the wider Northeast. The city’s cultural attractions, including Ujjayanta Palace and Neermahal, add to its appeal as an emerging destination for leisure and experiential travel.

The project reflects the evolving role of hospitality assets in emerging regional markets, where demand is increasingly being driven by business activity alongside domestic leisure and social travel.

With this signing, IHCL is positioning Gateway to capture the next phase of hospitality growth in Agartala, while further consolidating its presence across India’s Northeast.
