Copper Chimney, part of K Hospitality’s Charcoal Concepts portfolio, is charting its next phase of growth with plans to expand beyond 100 restaurants by 2033, as the five-decade-old North Indian dining brand looks to build a more capital-efficient and scalable operating model.

The brand has expanded from three restaurants in 2018 to more than 22 outlets in 2026, and is now targeting the addition of approximately 10-12 restaurants annually.

The expansion comes amid rising real estate, construction and operating costs across India’s restaurant industry, putting greater emphasis on unit economics and capital discipline.

Copper Chimney has consequently reworked its capex model, reducing restaurant build costs by approximately 25%, while strengthening technology, backend systems and talent development to support a larger network.

Scaling Beyond the Metros

Copper Chimney’s growth strategy will combine expansion into new markets with greater network density in key metros. Tier II and Tier III cities are also emerging as an important part of the opportunity as organised dining expands beyond India’s largest urban centres.

The company is additionally evaluating international growth opportunities, while seeking to retain the culinary identity and familiarity that have underpinned Copper Chimney’s positioning since its inception.

Reetesh Shukla, Vice President & Business Head, Copper Chimney, said: “The opportunity with Copper Chimney is not to simply preserve a 50-year-old brand, but to build the systems that allow its legacy to travel into the next 50 years. The challenge is to make that equity relevant to a new generation while building a business that is operationally stronger, more capital-efficient and ready to scale across markets.”

Re-engineering for Growth

For Copper Chimney, the expansion strategy goes beyond increasing restaurant count. The brand is focusing on operating efficiencies, technology integration, people development and standardisation as it prepares for a substantially larger footprint.

The approach reflects a wider shift in India’s casual-dining sector, where growth is increasingly being balanced with capital discipline, premiumisation, value and technology-enabled operations.

Copper Chimney sits within Charcoal Concepts, K Hospitality’s multi-brand F&B platform, whose portfolio also includes multiple other restaurants, with operations spanning India and international markets including London, Dubai and Colombo.

As Copper Chimney enters its sixth decade, its next phase will test whether a legacy restaurant brand can translate five decades of consumer equity into a nationally scalable business without diluting the product and brand identity on which that equity was built.
