The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) and Bahrain-based Kingdom Projects have announced a combined investment of $100 million across three developments, marking a significant step in Bahrain’s evolving luxury hospitality and lifestyle sector.
Unveiled at the fourth edition of Gateway Gulf, the partnership will bring the Taj brand to Bahrain alongside Bombay Brasserie and a flagship Hamleys store.
The investment reflects Bahrain’s growing appeal as a destination for international hospitality brands and long-term tourism development.
Taj Hotel Downtown Seef Leads the Expansion
At the centre of the investment is Taj Hotel Downtown Seef, IHCL’s first property in Bahrain. The development will feature 200 luxury hotel rooms and 80 branded residences, combining premium accommodation with Taj’s signature hospitality services.
The project builds on IHCL’s expansion plans announced in 2024, which included the Downtown Seef development and a 251-room Taj resort in Hamala, both in partnership with Kingdom Projects. The partnership extends into dining and retail, reinforcing Bahrain’s positioning as a lifestyle destination.
Bombay Brasserie, Taj Hotels’ Indian dining concept, is set to open in Bahrain Bay in the first quarter of 2027, with interior fit-out currently underway. Meanwhile, Hamleys will expand its presence with a flagship showroom at The Avenues Bahrain, offering interactive retail experiences for families and visitors. The store is also scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027.
Together, these developments highlight a broader investment approach that integrates hospitality, dining and experiential retail.
Strengthening Bahrain’s Tourism Economy
Announced at Gateway Gulf 2026, the projects align with the Kingdom’s ambitions to attract international investment and diversify its tourism offering.
Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development and Chief Executive of Bahrain EDB, highlighted the importance of such partnerships, stating: “Kingdom Projects’ investments reflect the continued confidence investors place in Bahrain as a trusted destination for high-quality, long-term investment.”
The developments are expected to generate employment across hospitality, food and beverage and retail, while enhancing Bahrain’s appeal to residents and international visitors.
As the Taj Group’s exclusive partner in Bahrain, Kingdom Projects is exploring further development opportunities with IHCL, signalling a longer-term commitment to the market.
For IHCL, the investment strengthens its Middle East footprint. For Bahrain, it underscores a larger shift towards integrated hospitality and lifestyle destinations.
As the Gulf’s hospitality landscape continues to evolve, the $100 million partnership reflects how international brands and regional developers are coming together to shape the next chapter of luxury tourism.
