SADAR MANZIL Heritage by Atmosphere Bhopal Doesn’t Talk Inclusion, It Operates It
At the heart of Bhopal lies SADAR MANZIL Heritage By Atmosphere, a palace where women run the show, literally!
By Rachna Virdi
Nestled in Bhopal is a brilliant masterpiece where history echoes through pillars and corridors—a living monument to the city’s royal past. The historic 19th-century mansion SADAR MANZIL Heritage by Atmosphere Bhopal — once the Durbar Hall for the Begums of Bhopal — stands out not just for its regal architecture but for another unique reason. The hotel is run by an all-women service team — from the front desk to guest services, women lead every aspect of hospitality, turning tradition into empowerment.
The hotel’s offering blends the elegance of an all-women team with gourmet vegetarian dining, global flavours, and amenities such as a spa, library, fitness centre, pool, and chauffeured transfers. This idea came from a simple vision: wanting to create a space where women could grow, lead, and inspire, while offering guests an unforgettable experience.

By Women, For the Future
“The decision draws from the mansion’s history as the grand hall of Bhopal’s female rulers, making an all-women team a fitting tribute,” explains Souvagya Mohapatra, Managing Director, Atmosphere Core (for India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka) shares the idea behind the concept. “It reflects a broader commitment to empowering women in hospitality.”
“We take pride in being front‑of‑house managed and operated by an all‑women team by positioning this as a conscious celebration of women‑led hospitality. It is rooted in the legacy of Bhopal when the city was ruled by its Begums for over a century —and SADAR MANZIL used to be their Durbar Hall. This aligned well with Atmosphere Core's boutique‑luxury ethos and preserving cultural heritage,” adds Souvagya.
With a 40-member all-women team, SADAR MANZIL offers a luxurious, serene experience while quietly reshaping narratives around women in hospitality. Through dedicated training and mentorship, the team has not only mastered their craft but also gained confidence and leadership skills.

Empowerment in Every Role
SADAR MANZIL Heritage by Atmosphere is positioned as a statement of its commitment to women’s empowerment and inclusive careers in hospitality, especially in a heritage‑couples‑only setting where nuanced, empathetic service is valued. “By building the brand around an all-women team, the property encourages women to take ownership, innovate, and grow into leadership roles,” shares Pradipta Mohapatra, Vice President-Development, Atmosphere Core.
When asked about challenges, he notes that the focus has largely been on the successful rollout and positive impact of the initiative. “There were no specific challenges in forming the team, such as recruitment or training hurdles, which are detailed in public sources. Job postings for female roles like front office, HK & F&B indicate active hiring efforts in Bhopal, but operational difficulties remain unreported. The focus in announcements stays on the successful rollout and positive impacts.”
For many staff members, the opportunity has been life-changing. Aarti Tuli, Palace Manager, SADAR MANZIL, adds, “Working with the hotel has given our women on the team independence, pride, and the confidence to dream bigger.”

A Message Beyond the Palace Walls
Beyond the palace walls, the initiative sends a powerful message about gender equality in hospitality. By placing women at the forefront, SADAR MANZIL challenges norms and sets an example for the industry.
It’s a pioneering aspect highlighted by Atmosphere Core's leadership. The hotel opened last year only, and emphasises its women team’s grace, professionalism, and empowerment through this women-led model, transforming a heritage property into a couples-only luxury retreat.
Pradipta sums it up with: “It’s a deliberate initiative to empower women in hospitality. This approach, highlighted by the MD & Leadership team, extends gender equality efforts by providing professional opportunities and showcasing women's grace and skills to guests from beyond the hotel. While primarily internal, it promotes broader visibility through guest experiences and social media mentions, such as International Women's Day posts celebrating the team's achievements.”
SADAR MANZIL Heritage stands as more than a restored palace—it is a statement. One that proves when women lead, hospitality doesn’t just function—it flourishes.
