Stepping into the resort feels like entering a sanctuary where natural beauty and the authentic spirit of Mauritius exist in perfect harmony. Tucked away on the island’s unspoiled east coast, the property is framed by shimmering turquoise lagoons, lush tropical gardens, and the dramatic silhouette of Bambou Mountain.
Now, after 16 years, the resort is embarking on a thoughtful reimagining—one that blends modern luxury with the island’s rich cultural fabric. At the heart of this transformation is 1508 London, tasked with translating this vision into spaces that connect guests more deeply with nature and the heritage of Mauritius.
The design approach celebrates the island’s lush landscapes, vibrant culture, and unique energy. Each space is envisioned as a living canvas—seamlessly integrating the island’s raw beauty with contemporary functionality. The result: villas that honour the resort’s setting, culture, and identity, while offering an elevated, harmonious guest experience.
In an exclusive interview, Martin Dell, General Manager of Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita, shared insights into the resort’s reimagined villas—a fresh chapter in its ongoing promise of barefoot luxury, authentic island spirit, and unparalleled comfort.
The Inspiration Behind the Redesign
“Our enhancement project is all about creating an immersive, sensory environment that allows guests to connect deeply with Mauritius—its natural beauty, rich culture, and warm spirit,” said Dell.
“We envisioned spaces where the resort’s interiors seamlessly blend with the island’s lush landscapes, vibrant colours, and authentic textures. It’s about bringing the outside in, infusing every corner with the understated elegance of the beach and the soul of Mauritian culture.”
Dell highlighted that inspiring this connection with nature while surrounding guests in refined luxury was key. “We wanted every guest not only to feel at home, but to experience the majesty of the surroundings in a meaningful way. Subtle details, from locally crafted artworks to thoughtfully selected materials, celebrate the island’s heritage and craftsmanship,” he explained. “That sense of immersion—combined with exceptional care and comfort—forms the cornerstone of this reimagined experience.”

Breathing Life into Spaces
The redesigned villas are characterised by light-toned, earthy hues, natural materials, and organic finishes that echo the beauty of the beach and the surrounding landscape. “At the same time, we’ve introduced vibrant accents drawn from the island’s colourful culture and rich heritage,” Dell noted. “Handcrafted elements celebrate local traditions and artistry, weaving authenticity into every detail. The aim is to invite guests to reconnect with their surroundings through thoughtful design.”

Balancing Architectural Authenticity with Modern Luxury
“At Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita, our vision is to create an environment where guests can savour the surroundings, connect deeply with nature, and craft timeless memories,” Dell said. “The reimagined villas, spa, and dining outlets are all inspired by the island’s natural splendour and cultural richness.”
Surrounded by lush vegetation, the villas offer a tranquil backdrop. “Guests will find serenity in the gentle ocean breeze, the birdsong, and the tropical ambience,” Dell described. “Locally inspired artworks and handcrafted artefacts enrich the interiors, while our dining experiences reflect the colours, flavours, and spirit of Mauritius in every dish.”

Through the reimagined villas, the resort wants to honour the landscape that inspires and celebrates the island’s cultural diversity.
Sustainability at the Core
According to Dell, sustainability has been integral to the redesign. “We’re deeply committed to supporting the local community and protecting the environment,” he affirmed. “Together with our ownership group, we’re exploring new conservation initiatives and strengthening our engagement with local communities. Through these reimagined villas, we want to honour the landscape that inspires us and celebrates the island’s cultural diversity.”
The Guest Experience
Personalisation remains at the heart of the Four Seasons experience. “Beyond luxurious accommodations, we want guests to discover Mauritius in ways that are meaningful to them,” Dell shared. “Whether it’s a speedboat or catamaran excursion, an adventurous hike to a waterfall, or a gentle nature walk, we aim to offer something special for every traveller.”
The resort’s award-winning overwater spa also reflects this ethos. “Our treatments and wellness rituals are inspired by Mauritius, using organic, locally sourced ingredients,” Dell added. “It’s all about creating moments of deep relaxation and connection.”
