Jamshedpur’s hospitality landscape welcomes a new chapter with the launch of Radisson Hotel Jamshedpur, a 121-key property that includes six suites and a presidential suite. The hotel is strategically developed above a bustling retail mall—an ambitious project that blends convenience with sophistication.

The distinctive setting by Design Circus has resulted in a design that redefines hospitality in the city. “Jamshedpur serves as an excellent example, where the story of Subernarekha and Kali Mitti not only shapes the design but also reflects Radisson’s brand language while honouring the artistic vision of the owner Prakash Jha. This approach defines the purpose, location, and function of the design, all anchored within a narrative unique to the project,” explains Riyaz Himany, Founder & Creative Director of Design Circus.

Global Brand, Local Soul

With contemporary spaces infused with thoughtful local inspirations, Radisson Jamshedpur offers business and leisure travellers a seamless blend of comfort, style, and modernity. While the global design guidelines favour defined palettes, clean contemporary lines and darker accents for Radisson Jamshedpur, Jha sought to anchor the space in the city’s own story.

“The design draws inspiration from two narratives experienced by Prakash Jha and Radisson. The first, Subernarekha, is the river flowing through Jamshedpur, which influenced our blue-toned colour palette. The second, Kali Mitti, shaped the design through black accents applied across various materials such as metal, wood, and PU,” adds Himany.

The result, born of close collaboration, is a hybrid narrative that honours global identity while weaving in the city’s soul. The Subarnarekha River finds its expression in streams of blue woven into visual highlights across the property, while the fertile kali mitti is reinterpreted through black line motifs, textured coatings, and dark finishes on furniture and panelling. Metal and woodwork details, finished in rich black, extend this narrative, subtly evoking the city’s steel-making legacy. Together, these elements root the hotel in its setting, merging nature and heritage with modern design.

Where Design Meets Tranquillity

Radisson Jamshedpur’s cohesive design language feels both contemporary and rooted, offering guests a tranquil environment that mirrors Jamshedpur’s unique identity. Himany believes, “Design can influence your body language in any space, and many areas are crafted with this intention. A prime example is the open reception, which combines all-day dining, a bar, and a coffee shop. While the space is open, it creates a powerful emotional transition through materials, textures, lighting, and furniture. The bar and coffee shop, being more relaxed, allow guests to work throughout the day or simply enjoy a book at the high table by the windows.”

Perched above a bustling retail mall, the hotel demanded a carefully choreographed arrival sequence. Guests are first welcomed into a purposeful transit lobby on the lower floors, where Radisson’s open-space philosophy is blended with a sense of local warmth. From here, the journey ascends to the main hub on the third floor—a dynamic space where reception, all-day dining, and the bar converge. By day, it is alive with the energy of breakfast service; by night, it transitions into a refined lounge and bar setting.

Any challenges? “Since the reception desk is on the third floor, it was difficult to create a strong sense of arrival. We addressed this by designing a compact yet double-height transit lobby on the ground floor, complemented by a grand driveway canopy, which together provide an elevated and memorable guest experience,” says Himany.

Beyond design, the long-term durability and safety of a hospitality project were crucial. The project is among the few that invested in stain-resistant and fire-rated fabrics and rugs throughout all areas. Additionally, all CP fittings are water-saving and thoughtfully selected, ensuring sustainability without compromising the guest experience.

Enhancing the Guest Experience

The hotel balances the precision of global brand standards with the authenticity of local storytelling to maximise comfort and enhance guest experience. The fourth floor is anchored by a versatile banquet hall with a capacity of up to 500 guests, seamlessly connected to a terrace for both large-scale events and more exclusive gatherings. Above, from the fifth to the tenth floors, guest rooms unfold in contemporary layouts enriched with locally inspired details, designed to maximise both comfort and aesthetic appeal.

Among the highlights is Ekant, a bespoke suite created for Prakash Jha. Immersed in tones of charcoal, black, and grey, it is crafted for barefoot, tactile living—an intimate sanctuary that channels the natural serenity of Jamshedpur’s landscape.

Radisson Jamshedpur is more than a hotel—it is a harmonious environment where river and soil converge, offering travellers a space to unwind, connect, and discover serenity in the heart of the steel city.
