Bhuvnesh Kumar Takes Over As Secretary, Ministry of Tourism
Bhuvnesh Kumar appointed as Secretary of India’s Tourism Ministry.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Bhuvnesh Kumar, a 1995-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, as Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism. He succeeds Srivatsa Krishna, who has been reassigned as Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
Prior to this appointment, Kumar served as Chief Executive Officer of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). In this role, he led the Aadhaar ecosystem, with a strong focus on strengthening electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) and authentication frameworks.
He also held key responsibilities in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), contributing to the development of India’s digital infrastructure.
Policy and Digital Governance Experience
During his tenure as Joint Secretary in MeitY, Kumar was actively involved in policy formulation across critical areas, including cyber laws, artificial intelligence, and the Digital India programme.
Kumar has extensive administrative experience in Uttar Pradesh, having held several senior positions. His roles included Principal Secretary for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries. He also managed key portfolios such as Finance, MSME, and Technical Education, and served as Divisional Commissioner for Land Revenue.
Earlier in his career, Kumar served as District Magistrate in multiple districts, including Lucknow, Meerut, Aligarh, and Bareilly. In these roles, he was responsible for district administration as well as maintaining law and order.
Kumar holds a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, where he graduated as a gold medallist.
This appointment reflects a strategic alignment of administrative and digital governance expertise with the evolving priorities of the tourism sector.
