Hyatt has announced a significant step in its India growth strategy with the appointment of Vikas Chawla as President – India & Southwest Asia, a newly created senior leadership role. This move reflects Hyatt’s intent to accelerate expansion and strengthen its position in one of its most strategically important markets.

The appointment comes at a time of sustained growth for Hyatt in India, marked by an expanding portfolio and robust development pipeline across major urban and leisure destinations. The company continues to build scale in response to rising demand for premium hospitality experiences.

Experienced Leadership to Guide Strategy

Chawla brings over three decades of global experience spanning food & beverage and consulting. Known for building brands, scaling businesses, and driving strategic growth, he will oversee Hyatt’s overall strategy, operations, and performance in the region. His leadership aligns with Hyatt’s evolution into a more insights-led, brand-focused organisation, with a strong emphasis on high-performing teams and long-term value creation.

Chawla said, “With a strong brand portfolio and exceptional talent, Hyatt is well-positioned to capture emerging opportunities. My goal is to further strengthen its position as a preferred brand for guests and employees, while contributing significantly to its global growth.”

He will report to David Udell, Group President, Asia Pacific. Udell noted that the new role reflects both the scale of opportunity in India and Hyatt’s long-term commitment to the market, emphasising the importance of local expertise and consumer insight in driving future growth.

India as a Strategic Growth Market

India remains one of the most dynamic markets for Hyatt in the Asia Pacific region. Rising middle-class demand for luxury travel, experiential stays, and premium dining continues to align with Hyatt’s core strengths. In 2025 alone, newly signed deals added nearly 5,000 rooms to the company’s pipeline in India and Southwest Asia.

Hyatt currently operates 55 hotels across nine brands in India and Southwest Asia. A key upcoming milestone is the debut of Hari Bagh Jaipur in 2026, the first property in Asia Pacific under the Destination by Hyatt portfolio. This launch will mark Hyatt’s second collection brand in India and its third property in Jaipur.

Future Growth Strategy

Looking ahead, Hyatt plans to deepen its presence in major gateway cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Hyderabad. It will also expand into high-growth leisure destinations, spiritual hubs, and emerging tier-two and tier-three cities—driven by strong domestic travel demand and increasing preference for experience-led hospitality.

The appointment of Vikas Chawla signals Hyatt’s sharpened focus on India as a cornerstone of its Asia Pacific growth strategy. With strong leadership, an expanding pipeline, and favourable market dynamics, Hyatt is well-positioned to capture the next phase of growth in the region.
