Marriott International has appointed Elton Hurtis as General Manager of Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield Hotel & Convention Center. This appointment signals a new phase of strategic leadership at one of the brand’s flagship properties in India.
In his new role, Hurtis will focus on strengthening the hotel’s positioning as a preferred destination in Bengaluru. His mandate includes driving operational excellence, building high-performing teams, and enhancing guest experiences to ensure long-term brand relevance and performance.

Industry Experience
Hurtis brings nearly 30 years of hospitality experience, including 24 years with Marriott International. He is recognised for managing complex hotel operations with a balanced approach that combines strategic discipline with a people-centric leadership style.
Prior to this appointment, Hurtis served as General Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Colombo, where he led operations at a prominent five-star property within a mixed-use development. His tenure was marked by improved market positioning and operational strength.
His career also includes leadership roles at:
- Sheraton Colombo
- Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa
- Courtyard by Marriott Bhopal (opening team)
Across these assignments, he consistently delivered strong guest satisfaction, fostered owner relationships, and built effective teams.
Leadership Philosophy
Hurtis is known for his belief that sustainable hotel success is driven by internal culture. He emphasizes talent development and cultivates environments grounded in trust, accountability, and service excellence. His leadership has contributed to enhancing brand value while delivering intuitive and personalized guest experiences.

Hurtis is an alumnus of the Oberoi Centre of Learning and Development and the Institute of Hotel Management, Mumbai. He holds ServSafe certification and was awarded Best General Manager – Asia at the World Luxury Hotel Awards in 2018.
Outside of work, Hurtis is a wildlife photography enthusiast and a dedicated taekwondo practitioner, having achieved the highest level in the discipline. He values family time and is known for maintaining a balance of discipline, creativity, and personal warmth.
