CGH Earth announces the launch of Sanctuary Amaidiyana, a serene resort and spa located on the tranquil outskirts of Auroville. Designed as a 23-key retreat, the property integrates holistic wellness, art, conscious dining, and immersive local experiences, encouraging guests to slow down and reconnect with themselves and their surroundings.

Brand Philosophy and Design

Derived from the Tamil word for peace and tranquility, Amaidiyana reflects CGH Earth’s core values of authenticity, sustainability, and community engagement. Set within one of India’s most creative and contemplative landscapes, the retreat offers an environment where calm and reflection emerge organically rather than being curated.

Michael Dominic, CEO & Managing Director, CGH Earth, describes the project as a “quiet refuge that restores balance while inspiring creative expression,” positioning Amaidiyana as eco-luxury with purpose, rooted in awareness and meaningful living.

Designed by Auroville-based architect Mona Doctor-Pingel, the property balances contemporary aesthetics with deep contextual grounding. Local craftsmanship defines the space, with bespoke doors, metalwork, ceramics, and bas-reliefs created by regional artisans. Hand-painted artworks by Auroville artists lend each room a distinct, meditative character.

Wellness Highlights

The retreat offers a holistic approach to well-being, combining Ayurveda suites, yoga, meditation, and immersive therapies with thoughtfully designed spaces such as garden-facing rooms and dual sit-outs.

Sanctuary Amaidiyana introduces two signature wellness experiences:

  • Heiwa: This minimalist sanctum features a prayer-like roof, a golden ratio-inspired rock garden, and a tranquil plunge pool.
  • Watsu Pool: One of India’s few purpose-built warm-water therapy pools, maintained at 32–34°C and housed under a 10-metre dome, designed for deep relaxation.
  • George Joseph, Vice President – Operations, CGH Earth, emphasises that Amaidiyana is “not just a wellness destination, but a unified philosophy of healing, conscious tourism, and quiet restoration.”
  • Experiential offerings include e-bike trails, sustainability workshops in Auroville, and heritage walks in Pondicherry, all curated in collaboration with local communities.

Conscious Cuisine

The culinary programme follows CGH Earth’s Conscious Cuisine philosophy, drawing from Tamil Nadu’s regional flavours and Auroville’s artisanal food culture. Ingredients are sourced from the on-site organic garden and local producers, including cheeses, breads, and condiments. Menus span reimagined comfort classics, traditional Tamil dishes, wellness-focused cuisine, and coastal seafood, delivering a dining experience that balances indulgence with sustainability and seasonality.

Guests can participate in hands-on activities such as bamboo and coconut shell crafting, block printing, and drumming, alongside regional explorations including chocolate factory visits, temple trails, and rural livelihood experiences. Proximity to Auroville and Pondicherry further enhances cultural immersion.

With Sanctuary Amaidiyana, CGH Earth strengthens its portfolio of experiential, eco-conscious hospitality offerings. The retreat underscores the brand’s commitment to creating spaces that foster healing, creativity, and meaningful connection, positioning Amaidiyana as both a destination and a philosophy of mindful living.
