IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a franchise agreement with Yamini Marketing's (OPC) Pvt. Ltd for voco Resort Kanatal, to be managed by United Hospitality Management (UHM) India.
Scheduled to open in 2030, the 92-key resort will strengthen IHG’s premium portfolio while expanding its presence in North India’s evolving leisure markets.
The Business Case for Kanatal
Located in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district on the Chamba-Mussoorie route, Kanatal is gaining relevance as travellers increasingly seek shorter breaks, wellness escapes and quieter alternatives to established hill destinations.
For IHG, the signing reflects a broader opportunity: taking internationally branded hospitality into emerging leisure markets where demand for premium, experience-led stays is growing.
Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, “India continues to present strong opportunities for resort development, particularly in destinations where travellers are looking for shorter breaks, wellness experiences, nature-led escapes and premium stays with character. voco Resort Kanatal reflects our focus on bringing the right brands to the right destinations, while further strengthening IHG’s ability to deliver compelling resort experiences for guests and owners.”
The voco brand brings together the individuality of an independent hotel with the standards and commercial strength of a global hospitality group, a proposition well suited to destinations where travellers increasingly value both character and brand assurance.

IHG and UHM Deepen Their Partnership
The project also extends IHG’s relationship with UHM India as both companies pursue opportunities across high-potential Indian markets.
Deepika Arora, Managing Director, UHM India, said the partnership combines IHG’s global brand standards with UHM’s operating expertise to “create lasting value for our ownership partners while meeting the evolving expectations of today’s leisure traveller.”
For Yamini Marketing's (OPC) Pvt. Ltd, said, “The destination presents a compelling opportunity as demand for premium resorts, wellness-led travel and memorable mountain stays continues to grow. voco Resort Kanatal is well positioned to become a preferred choice for travellers seeking a distinctive and memorable resort experience in the hills of Uttarakhand.”
voco Resort Kanatal reflects a larger shift in India’s hotel development landscape. Branded hospitality is moving beyond established metros and resort markets into emerging destinations shaped by changing travel behaviour and new pockets of leisure demand.
For global hotel groups and owners alike, these markets represent the next layer of growth and Kanatal is increasingly becoming part of that conversation.
