William (“Willie”) Walsh officially assumed charge as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IndiGo, completing a leadership transition that began in March this year.

Announcing Walsh’s formal charge to office, Managing Director Rahul Bhatia expressed confidence in the new CEO's ability to lead IndiGo through its next phase of growth. “As IndiGo enters its third decade and stands poised for the next phase of its growth, I am delighted to officially welcome Willie as the airline's Chief Executive Officer. His extensive global experience in the aviation industry, combined with his operational and strategic expertise, will be instrumental as IndiGo accelerates its international expansion strategy.”

Proven Global Aviation Leadership

Walsh brings more than four decades of experience in the aviation industry. He began his career as a pilot with Aer Lingus before becoming the airline's CEO in 2001. He later led British Airways and International Airlines Group (IAG), and most recently served as Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Walsh said he was joining the airline at a pivotal stage in its journey. “There could not be a more exciting and opportune time for me to join IndiGo than now,” Walsh added that he looks forward to building on the airline's success and expanding its global presence.

As CEO, Walsh will spearhead IndiGo’s next phase of growth by accelerating the airline's international expansion, strengthening operational excellence, and enhancing the overall customer experience. He will also work closely with the Board of Directors and the management team to shape and execute the airline's long-term strategic vision.
