ndian Hotels Company (IHCL) and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) have announced a multi-hotel operating agreement for eight hotels comprising over 2,000 rooms across Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Guwahati. The partnership brings together India's largest hospitality company and largest airport operator to expand hotel infrastructure at key aviation gateways.

Under the agreement, AAHL will develop the properties, while IHCL will operate them under its Taj, Vivanta, Gateway and Ginger brands, catering to business, leisure and transit travellers.

Eight Hotels Across Four Airport Cities

The agreement includes three Taj hotels, two Vivanta hotels, one Gateway hotel and two Ginger hotels, spanning luxury, upscale and midscale hospitality segments.

In Mumbai, the portfolio includes a Taj hotel under construction at Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Ahmedabad will see a Taj and a Vivanta, both in advanced stages of construction, while Lucknow will add a Vivanta and a Ginger. Guwahati will feature three properties under the Taj, Gateway and Ginger brands.

The developments will offer accommodation, dining, meetings and events, wellness and recreational facilities, supporting the growing demand for integrated hospitality infrastructure around airports.

Commenting on the partnership, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director & CEO, IHCL, said: “As India strengthens its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, airport-centric developments are emerging as important commercial and hospitality hubs. Our partnership with Adani Airport Holdings Limited brings together two leading Indian companies with a shared vision to build India’s travel and tourism sector.”

With these additions, IHCL’s airport-linked portfolio will expand to 25 hotels across its brands in India.

₹20,000 Crore Airport City Development Strategy

The agreement forms part of AAHL's broader strategy to develop integrated commercial districts around major airports.

Through its newly formed entity, Adani Airport City Limited, AAHL plans to develop a land bank exceeding 655 acres across six airports in five states, including nearly 440 acres in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

The first phase involves an investment of over ₹20,000 crore to develop approximately 22 million sq. ft. across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati.

These developments are envisaged as mixed-use districts integrating hospitality, commercial spaces, retail and leisure, with airports serving as anchors for wider economic activity.

Jeet Adani, Director, Adani Airport Holdings Limited, said: “Across the world, leading airports are evolving into integrated destinations that serve as catalysts for commerce, tourism and urban growth. At Adani Airports, our ambition extends beyond operating airports to developing vibrant Airport Cities that bring together hospitality, business, retail and leisure, while enhancing the overall passenger and visitor experience.”

He added that the IHCL partnership would strengthen the hospitality ecosystem within these developments and contribute to the long-term economic growth of the regions they serve.

Airport-Led Hospitality Growth

The partnership reflects the growing role of airport-linked districts in India's hospitality expansion. As aviation connectivity, business travel and tourism demand increase, airports are becoming important locations for hotels serving multiple traveller segments.

For IHCL, the agreement strengthens its multi-brand presence at strategic aviation hubs. For AAHL, it brings an established hospitality operator into its Airport City developments, supporting the creation of integrated destinations that extend beyond traditional airport infrastructure.

The eight-hotel agreement represents a significant step in aligning India's hospitality expansion with its evolving aviation and urban development landscape.
