International hotel companies continue to chase India’s booming leisure and wellness travel market. The latest one is Thailand’s Dusit International, which announced another major step in its India expansion strategy with the signing of Dusit Princess Rishikesh in Uttarakhand.

The 300-key mixed-use hospitality development, signed in partnership with luxury real estate and hospitality developer Atmosphere, is scheduled to open in 2031 in the Tehri Garhwal region near Rishikesh, one of India’s most prominent destinations for spiritual, wellness and adventure tourism.

Positioned in the Himalayan foothills, the project will combine hotel accommodation, luxury duplex villas and a broad range of wellness and lifestyle offerings, reflecting the growing demand for experience-led travel in India’s emerging leisure destinations.

The development will comprise hotel rooms and luxury villas designed to blend with the surrounding landscape while catering to both leisure and business travellers. Planned facilities include an all-day dining restaurant, lobby lounge, business centre, outdoor swimming pool, gymnasium, yoga room and flexible event spaces.

The facilities

A key highlight of the project will be its extensive clubhouse and recreation facilities. Guests and residents will have access to a wellness-focused spa, infinity pool, 250-cover restaurant, squash court, bowling alley, mini-plex and indoor gaming areas, positioning the property as a destination in its own right rather than simply a hotel.

The rise of investment in the mountains

The signing comes at a time when Rishikesh and the wider Uttarakhand region are witnessing increasing investor interest from hospitality brands. Improved road connectivity, a growing focus on wellness tourism and rising demand for nature-led escapes have helped transform the state into one of India’s fastest-growing leisure markets. The destination attracts domestic and international travellers seeking yoga retreats, spiritual experiences, river-based adventure activities and mountain getaways.

A growing India pipeline

For Dusit International, the project further strengthens a growing India pipeline following the opening of dusitD2 Fagu, Shimla in 2024. The company has increasingly targeted destinations that align with its wellness-oriented hospitality philosophy and Asian-inspired service approach.

“India continues to be a strategic growth market for our company, with strong long-term potential across both gateway cities and emerging leisure destinations,” says Siradej Donavanik, Vice President – Development (Global), Dusit International.

He believes that Rishikesh’s blend of spirituality, wellness and natural beauty makes it a strong fit for the group’s expansion strategy, particularly as travellers increasingly seek meaningful and immersive experiences.

Sanchit Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Atmosphere, talks about how the partnership aims to create a destination that seamlessly combines luxury, wellness and nature. He adds that Dusit’s hospitality expertise and wellness-driven approach will help position the project as a distinctive retreat in Uttarakhand’s evolving hospitality landscape.

Founded in 1949, Dusit International currently operates across hospitality, education, food and real estate sectors, with India emerging as one of its priority growth markets in South Asia.
