OPO Hotels & Resorts has entered the West Bengal market with the signing of its first hotel in New Town, Kolkata. The property is expected to commence operations in mid-October.
Located opposite Axis Mall, the hotel will feature 24 rooms, a 40-cover all-day dining restaurant, two banquet spaces and a rooftop bar-cum-lounge.
The mix positions the property beyond a rooms-led business, with revenue opportunities across accommodation, F&B, meetings, celebrations and the local social market. It will target corporate and leisure travellers while also catering to New Town’s resident and business catchment.
Eastern India Expansion Takes Shape
The Kolkata signing forms part of OPO Hotels & Resorts’ wider expansion strategy across Eastern and North-Eastern India. With upcoming properties in Guwahati and Itanagar, the company is looking to build its presence across the region’s growing business and leisure markets.
Kolkata represents an important addition to this strategy, giving OPO a foothold in one of Eastern India’s key commercial and hospitality markets.
New Town-Rajarhat has developed into a major business and lifestyle district, supported by corporate offices, retail, entertainment, residential development and an established hospitality ecosystem.
For OPO, the location offers the potential to address multiple demand segments. The banqueting and dining facilities are expected to cater to meetings and social events, while the rooftop lounge is designed to attract both resident guests and local customers.

Asset-Light Growth Through Partnerships
The property also reinforces OPO’s asset-light expansion model. Rather than owning hotel real estate, the company partners with property owners and provides hotel operations, sales, revenue management and guest-experience expertise.
Sandeep Basu, CEO, OPO Hotels & Resorts, said: “Expansion is not about simply adding keys to our portfolio. It is about identifying the right markets, partnering with the right owners and creating properties with a clear commercial and experiential proposition.”
He added that New Town’s strategic location, surrounding hospitality ecosystem and multiple revenue streams make the property an important milestone in OPO’s ambition to build a pan-India hospitality management company.
With Kolkata joining its pipeline alongside Guwahati and Itanagar, OPO’s next phase of growth signals a clear focus on management partnerships and emerging opportunities across Eastern and North-Eastern India.
