Adani Group, India’s fifth-largest conglomerate by market capitalisation, is preparing to bid for nearly a dozen airports slated for privatisation as part of its ₹1 lakh crore aviation infrastructure investment plan over the next five years. The government has earlier outlined plans to lease out 11 airports, including strategic locations such as Amritsar and Varanasi.
Jeet Adani, Director at Adani Group, said a portion of the planned investment has been earmarked specifically for the upcoming round of airport bidding. The overall capital expenditure will be financed through a combination of debt and equity. Beyond acquisitions, the investment programme will support new terminal construction, modernisation of aircraft-handling infrastructure, and upgrades to passenger amenities across the group’s airport portfolio.

Track Record in Airport Privatisation
The Adani Group entered the airport sector in 2019 after winning six airports under the government’s privatisation initiative. This was followed by the acquisition of Mumbai International Airport from the GVK Group in 2021, significantly expanding its footprint in India’s aviation infrastructure space. The group is also close to operationalising the Navi Mumbai International Airport, its first greenfield airport project.
The conglomerate is preparing its airport business for a potential listing by 2030 through a demerger from Adani Enterprises. The airport vertical is currently EBITDA-positive and reported an operating profit of ₹3,480 crore in FY25. According to Jeet Adani, the business is expected to turn cash-positive as capital expenditure moderates and revenues scale up, driven by operations at the Navi Mumbai airport and growth in city-side businesses such as retail, food and beverage, and hospitality.
