Twelve years after launching with a vision to tap India’s underserved hospitality markets, Cygnett Hotels & Resorts has emerged as one of the country’s fastest-growing hotel management companies, with more than 4,000 operational and under-development keys spread across 41-plus destinations.
The milestone reflects a journey that began with a conviction that India’s next hospitality boom would come not from traditional metropolitan centres, but from regional cities, pilgrimage destinations and emerging tourism markets.
Founded in 2014, Cygnett entered the hospitality landscape at a time when much of the industry remained concentrated in established gateway cities. The company chose a different path, focusing on Tier II and Tier III markets and the North East—regions that have since benefited from significant infrastructure development, improved connectivity and growing travel demand. This early-mover strategy enabled the company to establish a presence in destinations such as Ayodhya and multiple cities across the North East.
Today, Cygnett’s portfolio comprises 45 operational hotels and resorts catering to a diverse mix of business travellers, leisure tourists, pilgrims and destination seekers.
A Multi-Brand Hospitality Ecosystem
Over the years, Cygnett has built a diversified brand portfolio designed to address multiple traveller segments and market needs. The company’s portfolio includes Cygnett Hotels, Cygnett Park, Cygnett Inn, Cozzet, Cygnett Resort and Retreat, alongside Anamore—its luxury upper-upscale platform focused on experiential and premium hospitality offerings.
This multi-brand approach has enabled the company to strengthen its footprint across varied markets while creating tailored experiences for different customer segments.
As it enters its next phase of expansion, Cygnett is accelerating development across several high-growth destinations. The company has a robust pipeline of hotels and resorts scheduled to open over the next 24 to 30 months.
The expansion reflects the company's continued focus on markets benefiting from tourism growth, infrastructure investments and rising domestic travel demand.
Wyndham Partnership Strengthens Global Reach
A significant milestone in Cygnett’s evolution has been its strategic alliance with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world's largest hotel franchising company by number of hotels. Through the partnership, Cygnett gains access to Wyndham’s global distribution network, international sales channels and Wyndham Rewards.
The collaboration is also driving a transformation of Cygnett’s brand architecture, with all future hotels and resorts currently under development expected to operate under Wyndham-affiliated brands. The move is expected to enhance global visibility, strengthen distribution capabilities and deliver greater value for hotel owners and investors.
Reflecting on the company’s 12-year journey, Sarbendra Sarkar, Founder & Managing Director, Cygnett Hotels & Resorts, said, “When we started Cygnett twelve years ago, we were convinced that India's hospitality growth story would increasingly be shaped by emerging cities and untapped destinations. The North East, pilgrimage centres and regional markets offered immense potential, and our strategy was built around participating in this transformation long before it became an industry trend.”
Speaking about the next phase of growth, he added: “Our focus is on creating a globally connected hospitality platform rooted in regional India. Our partnership with Wyndham, expanding portfolio of brands and strong development pipeline position us well to capitalise on the evolving travel landscape and create long-term value for our stakeholders.”
Looking Ahead: The Road to 2030
With India’s hospitality sector increasingly being driven by spiritual tourism, experiential travel, destination weddings and infrastructure-led commercial corridors, Cygnett sees substantial growth opportunities emerging outside traditional metropolitan markets.
The company has set an ambitious target of crossing 100 hotels and 10,000 keys by 2030, underscoring its long-term commitment to becoming a leading hospitality platform across India and South Asia.
As regional destinations continue to gain prominence in India's travel ecosystem, Cygnett’s growth story reflects a broader industry shift—one where the future of hospitality is increasingly being shaped beyond the country's largest cities.
