Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Highlights ITDC’s Multi-Dimensional Growth Role
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, positions India Tourism Development Corporation as a multi-dimensional growth engine.

The Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, inaugurated a suite of multi-dimensional, high-impact initiatives at The Ashok Hotel, commemorating 60 years of the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and 70 years of The Ashok Hotel. In his address, the Minister positioned ITDC as a “multi-dimensional growth engine for India’s tourism and hospitality ecosystem,” aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Addressing the gathering, Mugdha Sinha, MD, India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), underscored the organisation’s steadfast commitment to innovation, sustainable tourism, and contemporary hospitality practices, while remaining deeply rooted in its rich legacy. The celebrations stood as both a tribute to ITDC’s distinguished journey and a reaffirmation of its vision to reinforce India’s standing as a premier global tourism destination.

Talent Development and Initiatives
ITDC unveiled an illustrated comic book titled “A Day at the Hotel,” developed in collaboration with Amar Chitra Katha. The initiative is designed to introduce school and college students—particularly from Tier 2, Tier 3, and rural regions—to career pathways within the hospitality sector.
An MoU was signed with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to train 1,500 tribal homestay operators across India. The programme will be implemented through IHM Ashok ITDC, focusing on hospitality standards, financial literacy, and digital operations, thereby advancing inclusive and sustainable tourism development.

Destination Promotion and Marketing
A teaser for “Chalo India with Eric Ji” (Mizoram) was launched in partnership with NITI Aayog, promoting Mizoram’s tourism potential under the Prime Minister’s Chalo India initiative and reinforcing destination-led growth.
The joint milestone celebration underscored ITDC’s evolution into a technology-enabled, governance-driven, and experience-centric hospitality organisation—strategically integrating India’s heritage assets with innovation to drive long-term sectoral growth.
